In February 2020, a month before COVID-19 started really impacting most of our daily lives in the United States, we wrote and featured an article about hiring smarter with technology. Though we saw technology like video interviews trending, we had no idea that they would soon be critical. Here’s an excerpt from our original article:

With services like Skype and Zoom, it’s become easier to combat scheduling and location issues when it comes to interviewing candidates. Whether you’re hiring a remote employee or not, top candidates may have tight schedules that do not allow for travel time to your office, or they may be hoping to relocate upon receiving a job offer. Either way, video interviews are a simple way to have face-to-face communication with candidates.

Prior to the pandemic, video interviews were a trend of convenience, and they quickly became a trend of necessity. However, while you may be anxious to get back to the way things used to be, life may never be exactly as it was, and some applicants are still taking as many precautions as they can while others simply expect more flexibility now from employers. Many pre-pandemic perks have now become post-pandemic expectations, and you can’t afford to shirk these trends, especially in today’s intense labor market.

Of course, you may not have the time or desire to handle hiring yourself, no matter what the trends are. If that’s the case for you, we’d love to be AtWork for YOU! Visit atwork.com/locations to find an office near you!
