The current job market is interesting because, although the unemployment rate is still significantly higher than before the pandemic, the US is also facing labor shortage fears. Many employers are struggling to find employees, but at the same time, many people are struggling to find work. This paradox seems to suggest that either the current labor market is quite different for various industries or employers and job seekers are having communication issues. With this context in mind, here are a few ideas to keep in mind as you job hunt during the pandemic:

Research Your Desired Industry

If you have an idea of the type of job you want, do a little research to see if the industry is struggling to find workers. If it is, your job search will likely be much easier!

Get Creative

If the job market is competitive in the industry you want, you may need to find creative ways to stand out in the crowd. For thoughts on standing out, view our blog posts about it here and here.

Team Up with a Recruiter

No matter what position you’re in when it comes to your job search, teaming up with a recruiter or at least researching the option is worthwhile. Recruiters typically have many employer connections and knowledge of positions available that may not be on LinkedIn or similar job search sites! They’ll help you find positions that match your skills and help you market yourself.
